Acta is a great guy. I know him from his days in the New York-Penn League when he managed the Auburn Astros for quite awhile. He was always accessible and available. The players seemed to like him, too.
I don't know much about his time with the Nationals -- I don't follow the Nationals (does anybody?).
I hope I'm wrong,I just have a bad feeling here.I really think we need a change leading in a different direction with someone who will shake things up a little. Acta may be a nice guy and the players may like him,but wasn't Wedge the same way? I'll support him and give a chance,I just have a bad feeling!! Maybe I'll burn my Yankee cards first! That might make me feel better. MOTHERSCRATCHER! Where have you been?? I was almost ready to send NCIS to Avon!
I have thought this post of yours for a few days now, and I cannot beleive you were upset at the hiring of Manny Acta by the Indians. As a die hard Indians fan myself, I was quite happy to have heard they gave Acta the time for an interview and was more impressed with him over any of the other candidates they interviewed including Bobby Valentine. I really believe that Acta is the perfect fit for our young Tribe to learn from, and I think the fans will really enjoy him as a manager. Let us not give the man any grief until he has managed some games for us. And as Acta said in his first press conference at the manager of the Indians, "not all the great managers were great when they were first managers either" citing an example of Joe Torre. Good luck to Manny Acta and the 2010 Indians!
Keep your cards and your chin up! This isn't bad. Take his record with the Nats with a grain of salt. Nobody would have succeeded there.
ReplyDeleteHe was by far the best available candidate. He's young, smart, experienced, and motivated. Give him a chance and I think you will be happy.
I don't think Acta is necessarily a bad choice. He really didn't have anything to work with in Washington.
