We all love nachos, right?

I've made many trades with Chris over at Nachos Grande.

They are always good !

Here's the latest from him.

It starts with a nice stack of Tribe cards, what else !!

Chris had offered some of these political cards,
which I find interesting for some reason.

I have PP 1, 3,  5, 8, 10A, 11A and 13.
I would be interested in any others out there.

Next up, an A&G back Ubaldo mini.
We really need to get him straightened out.

Peachy !

A 1988 O-Pee-Chee, Tommy Hinzo.

Matt LaPorta.
Some players, you think are going to be the real deal,
 just don't pan out.
Until we trade them !!

I like these cards!
Brantley has been doing a terrific job so far.

Jim Thome has always been a favorite player of mine.
I really only collect his Indian cards.
I save his cards from other teams, if I happen to pull them,
but don't actively search for them.

I have about 900 Thome Indians, so most of the ones I need are either auto's,
game-used or harder to find parallels.

Chris pulled one I do need !!

Sometimes a card isn't that hard to find
if you really try. I may have seen this at card shows but thought I already had it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you !!

Thanks for the great cards !

I sent a return package, hope you get it !!

Now I'm off to our annual bowling banquet.
Good food, good friends,
open bar (I don't drink, but most do !)
and all-night poker !!

Have a good evening everyone !

No shelter needed for the Diamond King's Bomb

Wow, I didn't realize it has been almost two weeks since my last post.

Maybe this "bomb" from Kevin, The Diamond King, will get me back on track !

Bombs, as I knew them from my military days, were not a good thing when they were coming at you, but I would definitely enjoy any "in coming"  like this!

First this Polar Bear back Hafner mini from 206 Topps  206.

From 1997, this terrific Black Jack McDowell
Pinnacle Museum Collection parallel.

1996-97 were very good years for Tribe cards.
This Zenith Mozaics insert is a prime example.

Classic 1974 Topps.
Buddy Bell on-card-auto.

I always liked this card.
Talk about heat !

And what better way to end a DK trade than this!

Kevin,
Thanks so much for the great cards !

New Purples to Chase

Stopped at Toys 'R Us Friday, to see what they had in stock. Sometimes not much !

I did pick up a Topps pack to get some more purple trade bait.

This a really cool shot.
The ball is just frozen in mid air.
You can even see the laces.

Great play at the plate !
(are you reading Brian !? )

" Whoa, I made it !!"

But the next one is new to me.
They also had some Opening Day.
I don't like buying cards there because they charge more.
But I did grab one pack.

This was inside as a bonus.

I don't even have all the Opening Day base Indians yet,
and now I have to find more purple parallels !!

A player name change I never knew about !

Apparently his last name used to Sanders. But I always knew him as Tony Gwynn.

I'm sure most of you knew about this card,
but this is the first time I've ever seen it.

Every time I go to the Chrysler Training Center in Auburn Hills, I stop at a certain thrift shop near by.  This time they had a basket full of cards, rubber-banded in about 50 card stacks at a dollar each. I saw some Tribe cards so I grabbed two bundles at lunch time. I went back after class and bought 15 more !!

I didn't fully realize what I had until I sorted them out here at home.

A freakin' complete set of 1993 SP !!

Plus, about 2/3 of another set.
Only one Jeter though !

That helps make up for the GQ fiasco !

More on this later.

Go Tribe !!!

They took care of another reining Cy Young winner today !!!

Bad Gypsy Queen experience, even the Jester isn't laughing.

I just got home last night from Detroit. No, I didn't go to the Tiger's home opener, although I drove past just after the game ended. I spent Thursday and Friday in Auburn Hills, learning all about the 6.7 liter Dodge, diesel truck fuel systems.

This story goes back to Tuesday night. Many of the bloggers had been getting GQ at Walmart so I stopped to see what they had. I picked up a value pack and headed home. I got very excited when I saw the edge of a very shiny black card, but closer examination really changed my disposition.

This is what I found.

Three base cards were bent on the bottom edge.
You can see the curvature.

This doesn't show up very well in the photo,
but right under the "z" is a crease from the bottom
of the lettering to the base of the card.

This one shows up better.

As does this one.

This Mike Minor is even worse.
Not  exactly "minor" !

Peralta got it too.

But this was the real bummer.
I know there is a lot of controversy right now,
concerning "game-used" cards. But ....

The two light colored streaks below the name is the
result of the plastic being bowed up slightly.

Here you can see it goes all the way
to the bottom of the card.

You can see the raised plastic in the center
on the bottom edge of the card.

All-in-all, 9 of the 20 cards were damaged.
6 base
2 inserts
1 game-used
(there would have been 21 cards w/o the GU)

Now the question is, when and where did the damage occur and who should make restitution ?

There is no visible damage on the outside clear plastic wrapper or the individual pack wrappers.
I didn't purchase anything else at the time, so the cards were in a bag by themselves, just sitting on the seat of the car.

Wait.... I just noticed something else as I was writing and looking at the cards.
I'm going to take another picture. Be right back !!

This is the lower left corner of the Derek Holland card.

Two other cards, the Gonzalez " Dealing Aces" and
and the Jon Jay "Glove Stories", have similar
indentations which fit together perfectly.
Right where you would grab the pack to bend it.
Everyone can draw your own conclusions .

I'm going to contact Walmart and Topps to see if either will offer to make up for the damages.

I will let you know what happens !!
