Talking Baseball - Tribe Style

I love baseball.

I love the Tribe.

I love oddball Tribe baseball cards and collectibles.


This was my latest find on ebay. A set of 21 Cleveland Indian Talking Baseball cards. I picked these up about a week ago.

There are 20 player cards and a line-up card as shown above.

These are typical player cards. They measure 2 5/8" x 3 ". Keep in mind these are from 1988. No logos and the the word "Indian" is nowhere to be found !

The back of the player cards list the typical stats you would expect to find on any regular baseball card. They obviously go to a game of some sort.

Now if I just had the game!!

Well, whatdayaknow!! Look what was on ebay today !!

Yep, the 1988 Parker Bros. Starting Lineup Talking Baseball game!

And guess who won it?? Right again! This little gem is heading for my home to join all my other baseball collectibles. It has two team sets with it. Hopefully not the Tribe, so I can play some games!

Either way this guy is on fire right now ! Shin-Soo Choo. 3 HR's and 11 RBI in the last 6 games.
His grand slam today,in the second inning, put the Tribe on top to stay.
4 wins in a row.
I know it's very early in the season but I am always excited for the Indians and I'm always planing on the World Series until it's mathematically impossible for them to win !

I know I haven't posted much lately.
I been very busy at work and home.
Were in the middle of planning a semi major vacation,
we have a college graduation coming up
and next week I'm getting my Card Collector software.

The last item means I'm trying to get a lot of baseball card related things organized and sorted out so I can get some decent want/have lists posted.

I still have trades from Night Owl, A Cardboard Problem, Roll Out the Barrel and My Past Time....I love It, to post. And cards to send out to a couple others.

Hopefully things will get back to "normal" soon!

Tribe Cards, Southern style

I got an email about a month ago. It was from a blogger of whom I was not familiar. Apparently he had contacted some of you, who had done trades with me, and wondered how things went. Thank you very much to all who may have participated in this "survey" as the reports were all very good! So he wanted to work out a trade with me. He said he would send me some cards and I could do as I wished.I took that to mean, if I didn't like what he sent, I could just blow him off and forget it. ( I would NEVER do that !) If someone sends me something I am going to send something back. I have several packages to get out at this time.



So, a couple weeks ago I received this very stuffed mailer from Roanoke, Va. Oddly enough, my wife has a niece who lives there.



The package was from C. Peterson over at Sign here ....and here.



Now I have serious problem! I have no idea what I'm going to be able to find to send back to him, that will even come close to what I'm going to display below.

Even more old school here with some real oldies but goodies. Love the logo stickers from all teams.

Great shot of a sliding Robbie Alomar. Needed that one too. Moving a little closer to the present with V-Mart and an '08 Opening Day Kenny Lofton.

Ebay,card show, beer cans and The Phillies?

What a combination, huh?

Well, ebay is easy. This is a great Cliff Lee gold refractor,14/50,

I won a few days ago.

I love this shot with his legs straight up and down.

The card show part is easy too.

That's if you want to call it a card show.

Every 2-3 months they hold a very small card show at Sandusky Mall.

When Cedar Point is open a little more often

as 1,000's and 1,000's of people come to Sandusky .

I hate it!

At work I can't even get out of our parking lot

as Cedar Point is right down the road from our dealership.

Anyway....I picked these up at the show on my way home today.

A very cool 1994 Denny's hologram Albert Belle.


And finally, 2010 Upper Deck Cleveland Stadium.


The card show is also where the beer comes in.

I had never seen these anywhere before.

No beer, it was empty.

He also had a Whitey Ford and Duke Snider.

If anyone is interested I could see if he still has them tomorrow.

So why was a very devout Tribe fan interested in the Phillies?

Actually it wasn't the Phillies as much as Richie Ashburn.

Makes sense, he was a pretty good ball player in his day.

But actually, a few years ago, my youngest son,Andy, bought me this:

1963 Topps Richie Ashburn.

Maybe you are now wondering why he would buy me that

instead of a vintage Tribe card.

Simple, he knew about this :

Some 50+ years ago my Father went to the local hardware store

and bought me my first real baseball glove.

A Richie Ashburn model.

I even put my own autograph on it!

At that age, I was called Jackie.

It took forever for my aunts and uncles

to quit calling me that!

The glove sets on a shelf behind me with the '63 card in the pocket.

Now the beer can will set next to it.

Dad, if you're listening, thanks for all the catches.

First pitch of opening day !

Well, Westbrook threw a few wild ones today too. That was was all just part of the act. We didn't want to spoil Chicago's home opener ! Jake will probably strike out 15-16 in his next start.

Maybe this guy can help the Tribe

at least in our household!!

When this plaque appears on top of our entertainment center,

my wife has has put up the white flag until the end of October!

A Tribal Snack From Mark's Ephemera.

Speaking of ephemera, these would not last long at my house! I'm a type II diabetic so it's a good thing Mark only sent the cardboard from the box, as protection for the cards inside. I have managed to keep my A1c down around 6, but these stretch the limits of my will power.



I did a little trading with Mark's Ephemera and this is what I received.

First, a nice selection of Thomes, C.C. and Robbie.

I especially like the 1997 EX 2000 set with the transparent background.

Next up, Bill Glynn from the Topps Archives Ultimate 1954 set.
2004 Diamond Kings Tallet, Lee and Hafner.

Hopefully Hafner will put the Crown on this season!

The Lofton SPx photo came out very cool but the Nagy Finest didn't fair so well. It's a no-protector, refractor error card. From what I'm told, some of the no-protector's came with an "R" after the card #, indicating it is a refractor even though some of them (this one included) are not.
Cy Young comes from the 1994 Ted Williams Card Co. set. This is a very interesting set.If you are not familiar with it you may want to do some research. I really like it and it's one of the very few sets I collect.

One of you lucky bloggers out there will be receiving this card in the next few days.It is already in the mail. Hopefully you will pass it on.
